Femininity in Scripture

A deeper look at the Book of Esther.

What is a woman? As we work on our newest devotional, specifically for women of faith, we explore what the Bible teaches us about Women.

We started with the book of Esther.

There are two notable female characters in this great book and the first we meet is not Esther, but Queen Vashti.

This very day the Persian and Median women of the nobility who have heard about the queen’s conduct will respond to all the king’s nobles in the same way. There will be no end of disrepect and discord.

Esther 1:18

When King Xerxes requested his queen’s presence, she refused to come. Her influence and power are so notable and overwhelming that this woman’s choice threatens all spousal relationships in the kingdom and this is almost 500 years before the birth of our Lord.

When you think about what Scripture has to say about women and femininity, there is no doubt that women are powerful and influential members of our faith communities and our society.

We pray:

Please God, let your words be a lamp to light our way and help us to see our roles as women the way you intend for us to understand our roles as women, our mothers, wives, sisters, and other women in our lives, and femininity so that we might be an extension of your greatness. Please help us to recognize the power and influence you have granted each of us and help us to use those gifts to be a blessing and to glorify your name. Thank you Lord. Amen.
